Diabolique is a loose leaf almond black tea with toffee and Lapsang Souchong from Da LBI Tea. Each cup brings notes of roasted almonds and burnt toffee.
Fasten your seatbelts. This powerful black tea makes for a intense morning. It’s a strong, tannic black tea with roasted almond flavor and sweet brittle. Notes of caramel and almond balance the blend of Assam and smoked lapsang souchong black teas. This unique blend is reminiscent of Italian croccante almond brittle. Each sip has a lingering burnt toffee flavor. Adding milk increases the malty sweetness and mellows the smoke to create a dangerously delicious cup.

Lovely taste & aroma.

Opening this bag is a heavenly way to start the day and don’t get me started on good it smells while it steeps. The flavor is sweet and delicate. I’ll be reordering this one!

To me the flavor is light with a hint of toasty flavor

This has a nice flavor but it tastes (to me) like a weaker version of “Passage”….i’ll just stick with passage .

Great tea. This new smokey almond tea is not too sweet. Really nice!

Oh my, this is good! I love a strong black tea and this is one of the best I’ve had. It’s great straight up; adding a bit of honey makes it marvelous. A truly fantastic blend.

The scent is sweet and malty. I brewed as recommended and added a little milk, the smell fools you a bit, it’s not as sweet as it smells and it’s a little more tannic than I expected but overall a really great tea. If you expecting a strong almond flavor you may be disappointed but if you are looking for the caramel flavor of brittle this is the tea. Well done Gina!!

This is a nice flavored tea although I don't recommend smelling this before brewing. The smell is amazingly sweet, but I think you might be disappointed if you drink the tea immediately after. I do think this tea gets better as it cools and the flavor comes forward more..

This is a good smooth black tea, I can definitely pick up on the hints of almond, smokiness, and natural sweetness. I only wish it was a little stronger, that could be personal preference because I love powerful teas like Civil Disobedience and Low Country.

I found this tea to be very warm and comforting! The almond and taffy came through beautifully.

I really wanted to like this tea. It smells great, but I found the taste to be blah.

Diabolique is quite lovely. Reading the "Blender's Notes" section made me very excited to try this tea, and it lived up to its own hype. Toffee and smokey tannins are the prominent flavors for sure.

This is a very mild, slightly smoky black tea. I thought it’d be sweeter than it is, but found that I like it best with a touch of honey to bring out the almond sweetness, and a little milk to smooth the whole thing out. It’s tasty as-is, black, as well, if you want a mild breakfast tea. None of the flavors overwhelm. Another enjoyable tea!

While I really love this tea, the almond flavor didn’t come through like I had hoped from the description. It reminds me of the burnt sugar from the Raspberry Burnt sugar tea quite a bit. Just had hoped for more almond!

If you love strong, malty, sweet & nutty black teas, or Passage, Low Country & Golden Arrow, this is worth a try! It’s a very strong & tannin forward black tea, more so than I usually like, but I brewed it shorter than I do something like Passage. The smoky notes are perfect for me & really balance the caramel-almond flavours. I prefer black tea with milk & Diabolique is strong enough to take milk without tasting too thin, & the milk really boosts the almondy maltiness & mellows any OTT tannins I’ve gotten from brewing it too long. The only thing stopping it from being on regular rotation for me is how sweet it is, I love it as a bit of a change-up next to my multiple cups of Passage a day but I find Diabolique a little cloying sometimes. Nutty, strong black teas will forever be a winner for me tho!

I don’t get much in the way of almonds, but the toasty, sweet character comes through well. This reminds me the most of the Black Lodge tea, which also had an almost earthy but still restrained smokiness to it (very light on the smoke, really, but it’s there). The result is malty and sweet without being cloying. It’s not going to displace Low Country or Golden Arrow, but I’d totally get it again…

This tea has a smokey taste to it, and a subtle very light taste of almond in it. With saying that the tea is very good, and has a richness to it. I drink it straight without milk but I think an almond milk would help bring out the almond taste in this tea if that is what your looking for.

The almond flavor is subtle, which is a good thing since I generally don’t care for nut flavors. It’s also slightly sweet, so the resulting taste is more like a cookie. The bitter bite of the tannin is perfect (that’s something I like about black teas). Diabolique is perfect for those times when you want something a little sweet in the afternoon when you take a break.

As advertised, it's roasted almonds and burnt toffee. It tastes good but the aroma is wonderful! Very nice. The taste is not as sweet as it sounds, so you can add your own sweetness or not, as you please.

I really enjoy this tea, and have used a good amount since I got it! I find it is a bit on the sweeter side, which I don't mind for a late morning/early afternoon treat. It's certainly got a toasted flavor to me, and I get more of a biscuit flavor than almond specifically. When brewed for longer than recommended, the flavor (and color with milk) remind me a little bit of Thai tea, almost. Overall a very nice tea for a cozy winter morning!

The addition of the almond to the strong tea makes it a pleasant cup of tea to start the day. I added a bit of honey and a splash of almond milk because I don't care for the sharper flavor of a full bodied black tea. It just makes it mellower which puts it on my favorites list. Yum!

This is a smoky black tea with a hint of almond and toffee flavors. It's great for mornings and after dinner when you don't want anything too flavored and sweet, but the smokiness of the tea is a little too much to handle on its own.

This tea is perfect with a bit of milk (cow was great, oat was even better) to smooth its edges out: then it becomes malty, smooth and a bit smoky. It has rich flavour for a wonderful morning experience!

I love almond brittle, but I’m not completely sold on this tea. I think it’s the Lapsang Souchong smokiness that doesn’t work for me. Where’s the caramel?
(Review of this tea from another retailer's customer.)
Diabolique is a new black tea with hints of almond brittle that will not take you by surprise. It's very mild in flavor and easy to drink. I love the presence of rock sugar because it completely masks the bitterness of black tea. Someone who prefers big flavors of Southern Gothic or Civil Disobedience might find this tea a little underwhelming, but personally, there is always a right time for the right tea.

Almond is not my favorite. Having said that, I tried this tea. It is lovely. I added milk and it became more palatable. After notes of toffee and citrus. A refreshing change when needed.
(Review of this tea from another retailer's customer.)
This tea has flavors that blend well together. I find myself going to it each morning. I would add it to my regular rotation. I like that neither the almond nor sweet are super strong.
(Review of this tea from another retailer's customer.)
Diabolique is a complex tea! It can go different ways. First, I learned to keep my steep time short. If you steep it too long, the bitterness comes out, so keep it short. If you want a smokey tea, just sip on it straight from the mug. If you want sweetness with a touch of almond, add a little milk or cream, because it will change the tea up. I get a little bit of the nuttiness, but it was not up to what I would imagine an almond brittle flavor. I guess the question with Diabolique is do you want a smokey dark side or a sweet light side. Diabolique lets you decide.

I love everything about this tea. It has excellent flavor but isn’t overwhelming. There is a delicious subtle bitterness that complements the almond flavor very nicely.
